Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner

Role Level: Advanced Practitioner – Level 5
Responsible to: Room Manager / Deputy Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner to join our team. This is a key role within the nursery, ideal for a highly skilled educator who is committed to delivering exceptional early years practice and supporting others to do the same.

As a Lead Practitioner, you will play a vital role in driving quality, modelling outstanding interactions, and supporting the development of colleagues. You will work closely with the Room Manager and wider leadership team to create a stimulating, inclusive and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

This role offers the opportunity to influence practice, lead by example, and be part of a forward-thinking, values-driven organisation.

Key ResponsibilitiesPedagogical Leadership & Quality Improvement

  • Model outstanding teaching, learning and interactions across the room
  • Lead on planning and curriculum delivery, ensuring it is engaging, inclusive and purposeful
  • Support colleagues to embed strong early years pedagogy and reflective practice
  • Contribute to self-evaluation, action planning and continuous improvement
  • Use observation and assessment effectively to support children’s progress

Children’s Care, Learning & Development

  • Deliver high-quality care and education in line with EYFS
  • Act as an exemplary key person, building strong attachments with children and families
  • Plan and implement next-step learning tailored to each child
  • Create safe, stimulating and purposeful learning environments

Inclusion & SEND Support

  • Work alongside the SENCo to identify and support additional needs
  • Model inclusive practice and support colleagues to adapt provision
  • Contribute to meetings, reports and multi-agency working where required

Safeguarding & Welfare

  • Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection
  • Follow all policies and procedures with professionalism and vigilance
  • Promote safe, caring and hygienic practices throughout the setting

Team Development & Collaboration

  • Coach, mentor and support colleagues, particularly Level 2/3 practitioners and new staff
  • Share best practice through modelling, discussions and in-room support
  • Assist with room organisation and daily routines
  • Step into leadership when required to ensure continuity of care and education

Partnership with Parents & Carers

  • Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers
  • Lead effective communication including progress updates and parent meetings
  • Provide guidance to support children’s learning at home

Professional Conduct & Responsibilities

  • Act as a role model, demonstrating professionalism and organisational values
  • Maintain accurate records of planning, assessments and children’s development
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures and statutory requirements

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an experienced Early Years practitioner with strong pedagogical knowledge
  • Has the confidence to lead by example and support others
  • Is passionate about delivering high-quality care and education
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Is reflective, proactive and committed to continuous improvement
  • Can inspire and positively influence others within the team

Qualifications & Experience

  • Level 5 Early Years qualification (or working towards)
  • Strong knowledge of EYFS and child development
  • Experience in mentoring, coaching or leading practice
  • Understanding of safeguarding, SEND and inclusive practice
  • Experience of planning, assessment and tracking children’s progress

  • Advanced Safeguarding training
