Contract: Locum, Full Time, 6 Months

Darlington Children's Services are seeking an experienced Child and Family Social Worker to join the Children and Families Team as an Advanced Social Work Practitioner. This full-time locum opportunity offers £34.45 per hour for an initial six-month contract, with the potential for extension. You will manage a caseload of children with complex needs while supporting colleagues and contributing to the ongoing development of children's services during an exciting period of service reform.

What you will do:

  • Manage a caseload of children requiring support under Child Protection, Children in Care, and Care Proceedings.
  • Provide reflective supervision and support to Newly Qualified Social Workers and Family Help Lead Practitioners.
  • Deputise for the Team Manager by providing professional guidance, overseeing intake duty decisions, coordinating case allocations, and chairing strategy meetings and Public Law Outline (PLO) meetings.
  • Participate in Families First reform initiatives and contribute to service improvement projects.
  • Work flexibly across office and remote locations in line with service requirements.
  • Respond promptly to urgent situations, including travelling where necessary to meet service demands.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Social Work.
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant post-qualifying experience within children's social work, including Child Protection, Children in Care, and Care Proceedings.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring less experienced practitioners.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, safeguarding procedures, and statutory guidance.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes, where required.
