
Waking Night Mental Health Support Worker

We are recruiting Waking Night Mental Health Support Workers to join our East Sussex complex‑needs service, providing essential overnight support to individuals in their own homes or within the community. Our clients present with complex mental health needs, trauma histories, or neurodiversity, and require calm, consistent support throughout the night.
Due to specific client presentations, we welcome applications from male Support Workers or experienced female Support Workers. (Permitted under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9.)
A manual car licence is essential

💛 About the Service
Our East Sussex team delivers psychologically informed, person‑centred support to adults with complex needs who may be transitioning from hospitals, unstable housing, or crisis environments. Support focuses on safety, stability, emotional regulation, and empowering individuals to maintain independence.
Night work plays a vital role in ensuring continuity, reassurance, and effective risk management.
✨ What You’ll Be Doing (Waking Nights)
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will provide:
- A consistent, awake, overnight presence to safeguard and support individuals with complex presentations.
- Delivery of a person‑centred service that promotes independence, even during night‑time routines.
- Completion and review of dynamic risk assessments and support plans as required.
- Calm, skilled responses to changes in mental state, distress, or crisis situations.
- Use of therapeutic de‑escalation and crisis‑intervention techniques when needed.
- Appropriate management of risk while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
- Accurate record‑keeping, logging night‑time observations, and escalating concerns where necessary.
- Any tasks specified in support plans to maintain safety overnight.
This role requires travelling across the region, so a licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
🌼 What We’re Looking For
We are seeking Support Workers who are:
- Compassionate, patient, and confident working with complex or challenging presentations.
- Able to address or challenge inappropriate or negative behaviours constructively.
- Skilled in (or willing to be trained in) therapeutic de‑escalation and crisis management.
- Comfortable working independently during waking-night shifts.
- Resilient, observant, and able to remain alert throughout the night.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and maintaining accurate written records.
- Hold a manual driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
Ideal experience:
Background in social care, mental health, neurodiversity, or experience within complex‑needs services.
