Derbyshire County Council is seeking a dedicated Social Worker to join its Children in Care Team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people in care, helping to ensure safety, stability, and positive long‑term outcomes through high‑quality statutory social work practice.
What you will do
- Manage a caseload of Looked After Children, ensuring all statutory duties are met.
- Build and sustain meaningful relationships through regular statutory visits.
- Develop, implement, and review robust care and permanency plans tailored to individual needs.
- Work toward achieving stable placements and explore reunification or adoption where appropriate.
- Promote the health, education, and emotional wellbeing of children and young people in care.
- Prepare high‑quality reports for statutory reviews and court proceedings.
- Work collaboratively with foster carers, residential staff, families, and partner agencies.
- Support young people transitioning to independence and accessing leaving care services.
- Ensure the child’s voice, wishes, and feelings are central to all planning and decision‑making.
Requirements
Essential:
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- Experience working with Children in Care within a statutory children’s social care setting.
- Strong assessment, care planning, and report‑writing skills.
- Ability to manage complex caseloads and work effectively with multi‑agency partners.
Desirable:
- Experience in permanency planning, care proceedings, or pathway planning.
- Familiarity with local authority case management systems.
