We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Social Work Practitioner to join the Children Assessment Team in Stevenage. Purpose of the Role

As a Senior Social Work Practitioner, you will lead and deliver statutory social work assessments for children, young people, and families, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and improved outcomes. You will also provide supervision, mentoring, and professional leadership to a team of social workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake statutory assessments in line with the Children Act 1989/2004, ensuring the welfare and protection of children.

  • Develop, monitor, and review child protection and child-in-need plans, identifying risks, protective factors, and family strengths.

  • Maintain accurate case records and statutory documentation to inform decisions and interventions.

  • Supervise and mentor social workers, promoting reflective practice and professional development.

  • Collaborate with multi-agency partners including health, education, police, and voluntary sectors for coordinated safeguarding responses.

  • Conduct risk assessments and develop management plans for children at risk, maintaining a proactive safeguarding approach.

  • Ensure timely escalation of concerns in line with local and national safeguarding policies.

  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and policy development through professional expertise and experience.
