Careers at Tor Na Dee Care Home

Nurses

The Registered General Nurses (RGNs) employed at Tor-Na-Dee Care Home by Care UK are highly skilled and receive sector-leading training, which enables them to keep developing expertise in different clinical fields from dementia to palliative care.

At Tor-Na-Dee Care Home, we also have jobs for mental health nurses (RMNs), who support residents with more complex needs or greater dependency levels. Because we offer nursing dementia care, your mental health nurse expertise will be valuable for residents requiring an understanding of dementia and mental health.

Nurses working at Care UK care homes provide clinical nursing to residents including medication management, infection prevention and control, including wound care and catheter management. They also develop tailored care plans for individualised care of residents. We use Waterlow and MUST clinical assessment tools to support our work.

We also offer opportunities for newly qualified nurses.

Care Assistants

Our hardworking care assistants always keep individuals and their families at the heart of the care they provide. They work with the families to shape the care that each resident receives, from the food they’re served to the activities and experiences they want to do – even the ways they prefer to keep in touch with their friends and family.

Clinical Leads

Clinical leads oversee the nursing team and are responsible for delivering the individual care plans. They deputise for the management team and work with local GPs and other healthcare professionals to maintain the best quality of care for residents.

Team Leaders

With a proven ability to lead and supervise others, team leaders work alongside care assistants to support residents with their daily needs. Ideally with an NVQ level 3 in health and social care, or with a desire to achieve this, team leaders will carry out risk assessments, administer and record medication requirements and lead the care assistants on a day to day basis.

Lifestyle Teams
Our dedicated lifestyles teams work hard to organise a range of activities and events at our home. From gardening and baking to quizzes, music sessions and even live entertainment. Above all, we get to know each resident to make sure our activities are tailored to suit their interests and hobbies.

Tor-Na-Dee Home Manager, Maureen Barrett

“I qualified as a general nurse in 1982 and then worked in hospitals throughout the UK before moving into residential care. I became a care home manager in 2000 and worked at several homes in the Aberdeen area, before arriving at Tor-Na-Dee as a brand new home in 2008.

“I'm a very positive, driven person and always aim to do the best I can for residents and the home. I love to see that residents are well looked after and that they feel happy and contented. And it's reassuring to know that residents' families are really pleased with the care that we provide. It's also rewarding to watch team members develop and blossom.

“I'm proud of how Tor-Na-Dee has progressed since it opened and the high standard of care that our knowledgeable team provides every single day. We do lots of surveys among residents, families and the people that work here, to gather feedback and suggestions, and we have monthly meetings with residents and relatives. I also hold a monthly manager's surgery but my door is always open to anyone who'd like to talk.”

“As Colleague Voice, I have attended a conference last year in Gatwick which 1 was pushed outside my comfort zone (as I was solo travelling which is generally a fear of mine!) and 2 I have really helped my fellow colleagues with raising feedback and way to better support the home. I thoroughly enjoy this role!“

Jancy Shaju - Deputy Manager

“I’m an experienced nurse, and I joined Care UK in 2012. Having worked my way up the ranks, I know how important it is to share knowledge and information with the team, and the need to be open and honest. Everyone has great ideas and should be listened to, so that’s what I always aim to do.

"I love working with residents and making them laugh. Every person we care for is special and I’m proud to be helping them to enjoy a great quality of life. Every day is busy and brings different challenges, but we work well as a team at Tor-Na-Dee, and it’s a happy care home. It’s a great place to work – I enjoy my job and helping the team to deliver great care to residents and their families.”

Anjali Thakur - Lifestyle Coordinator

“Before joining Care UK, I completed my master’s degree in computing and worked in several different roles related to computers and IT. I joined Tor-Na-Dee in August 2023 after working in a role where I organised events, activities and festivals. I was interested in the Lifestyle Coordinator role because it allowed me to organise activities for residents.

"The most important part of my role is understanding the needs of residents. Each person has unique requirements, preferences and limitations, and although it can be challenging, I love being creative and arranging fun, engaging and safe activities that are suitable for everyone. I enjoy creating moments of celebration and connection with residents. Knowing that my work directly impacts their lives makes me feel fulfilled in my role.”

Fiona Orvis - Lifestyle Coordinator

“I graduated from university with a degree in Pharmacy. I worked as a Pharmcist then I went to live abroad for 10 yearrs where I looked after my family. I decided to work for Care UK because I heard it was a great place to work, I was told that the poeple who work there are very friendly and helpful.

"The home is run to a very high standard. To be good in my role you need to be caring, have a happy personality, have empathy for the residents. good communication and patience. My favourite part of the day is when we are doing an activity and everyone is having a great time. This makes me feel happy. My intrestes outside of work are being with family. I love walking and going to the cinema. To unwind I go and see my friends.”
