<li>Take professional responsibility for managing a complex caseload which will include individuals, children, carers and families who require support and guidance.</li><li>Demonstrate confident and effective judgement about risk and accountability in decision-making and be able to sustain engagement with fluctuating circumstances and capacities, including where there is hostility and risk.</li><li>Use assessment procedures discerningly in response to the presenting needs and to ensure that a proportionate assessment is completed in a way that enables maximum participation.</li><li>Use professional judgement, employing a range of interventions: promoting independence, providing support and protection, taking preventative action and ensuring safety whilst balancing rights and risks.</li><li>Take the lead in managing positive intervention that prevent deterioration in health and wellbeing whilst safeguarding people at risk of abuse or neglect.</li><li>Undertake assessment and planning for safeguarding in more complex cases, and support colleagues by utilising safeguarding skills, in line with current policies and procedures.</li><li>Play a leading role in practice development, help promote and sustain a learning culture and mentor less experienced staff.</li><li>Deliver formal professional reflective supervision and provide guidance and advice regarding casework to less experienced qualified staff.</li><li>Where required, take the role of practice educator (or train as a practice educator) for students and the role of ASYE assessor and supervisor for newly qualified social workers in the team.</li><li>As part of the supervision and appraisal process provide support with personal and professional development.</li><li>Take professional and personal responsibility for clear recording of analysis and judgements, maintaining up to date case work records on the database as required.</li><li>Take responsibility for working within the Directorate’s data protection policies.</li></ul>
Requirements of the Senior Social Worker role:<ul>
<li>CQSW, DipSW, BA Social Work of equivalent professional qualification.</li><li>Management qualification at least at Level 4.</li><li>At least 1 years’ experience of supervising professional staff.</li><li>Knowledge of relevant childcare legislation.</li><li>Ability to travel independently to all required areas by the job’s responsibilities.</li></ul>

<li>Assess, plan, review and provide support to a child, family or carer with complex family or social care needs, taking full account of appropriate legal frameworks, policy and guidance.</li><li>Assess family functioning, providing help and support, when relationship breakdown threatens to impair the health or wellbeing of children at risk of abuse or neglect.</li><li>Work collaboratively, building effective working relationships with other professionals, internally and externally to help children, young people and families improve and gain control of their lives when safety or ability to participate in their community is restricted.</li><li>Carry out an assessment or enquiry and plan responses to safeguard a child from abuse, neglect or exploitation, building effective relationships with children, adults and families as appropriate, including intervention when information or circumstances suggest there may be a need to remove a child from their parents or carers.</li><li>Arrange appropriate alternative care (including, where appropriate a permanent home) in collaboration with children, young people and their parents/carers where the parents/carers cannot care for them.</li><li>Accountable for making recommendations about whether a case has reached the threshold for statutory intervention.</li><li>Promoting autonomy and development with individuals who have complex social needs and are more vulnerable as a result of disability, exclusion, or diminished capacity, for example, working with people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities or diminished capacity.</li><li>Maintain up to date, accurate and high quality records of activity on cases.
