Main duties:<ul>
<li>Provide a professional social work service to children in need and their families in accordance with the principles of the Children Act</li><li>Undertake enquiries and assessments of children who are considered to have possible suffered or who may be likely to suffer significant harm. Make applications with the appropriate management and legal advice for Orders to safeguard children under the Children Act</li><li>Work in partnership with service users in a variety of settings including the office, the service user’s own premises and any other suitable setting for social work practice</li><li>Prepare written reports of a professional standard for use in a variety of settings, including Court proceedings.</li><li>Act as a representative of the Local Authority at court, give verbal evidence at Public and Private proceedings and give account of Local Authority actions; provide written evidence for the courts when required.</li><li>Maintain client records in accordance with statutory and departmental requirements.</li><li>Attend child protection conferences, statutory reviews, core groups, department meetings and verbally contribute in a professional manner to the course of the proceedings.</li><li>Represent the Local Authority when cases are being transferred between authorities.</li><li>Contribute to the preparation and implementations of plans for children in need (child protection, looked after children and family support)</li><li>Contribute to the maintenance and development of an efficient and effective social work team, attend and contribute to team meetings in a structured professional manner.</li><li>Provide cover for the Children and Families Social Work Teams and when required.</li><li>Work directly with service users employing a wide range of social work knowledge, skills, methods and techniques.</li><li>Work co-operatively or conjointly with other social workers or other professionals where this is seen to be appropriate by the Fieldwork Team Manager or their managers</li><li>Participate as required in the administration and organisation of all work related to social work duties associated with the post.</li><li>Provide information to assist in the planning, implementation or monitoring of services as required for departmental, Department of Health or other official purposes.</li><li>Work effectively and co-operatively within a professional and family network established in respect of individual children in need and their families.</li></ul>
Requirements of this Social Worker role:<ul>

<li>To provide a high-quality and effective professional casework service, taking responsibility for working and managing a caseload within a framework of appropriate supervision, dependent upon the complexities of these cases and the Social Worker’s experience.</li><li>Manage a caseload within a framework of appropriate reflective supervision, undertaking focused, analytical assessments, SMART plans and reviews that have clear objectives and outcome measures in order to ensure that all vulnerable children and young adults with disabilities receive a service that reflects the Council’s commitment to child and adult safeguarding and meaningful transition into young adulthood.</li><li>Demonstrate and model good practice that reflects a commitment to relationship and strengths-based practice, working collaboratively with disabled children, young people and their families.</li><li>Work directly with disabled children and young people to establish their lived experiences wishes and feelings, using a variety of techniques, as required.</li><li>Consistently use the Signs of Safety practice model in assessments and interventions with children and their families.</li><li>Prepare clear, structured and concise reports for meetings, i.e. Child Protection Conferences, strategy meetings, Looked After Children Reviews, Children in Need meetings, and court proceedings as necessary, to the required standard and within the prescribed timescales.</li><li>Keep up to date with research findings, theoretical models and innovative practice within the Social Work field in order to maintain the highest professional standards.</li><li>Participate in regular reflective supervision with your manager to review casework and critically reflect on, and identify any areas of learning.</li><li>Keep up to date with the Council’s organisational policies, government guidance, legislation, research and national trends in order to maintain the highest professional standards.</li><li>At the discretion of the Head of Service, such other activities as may from time to time be agreed consistent with the nature of the job described above.</li></ul>
Requirements of this Experienced Social Worker role:<ul>
<li>A professional Social Work qualification or equivalent.</li><li>Understanding of relevant legislation.</li><li>Registered or eligible for registration.</li></ul>
