One Support is the housing, care and support arm of One Housing and is one of the largest and fastest growing providers of housing care and support services across London and the South East. This is implemented by providing support services through a support planning system, and ensuring the delivery of a quality service which reflects best practice and adheres to all relevant legislation and performance standards.
You will be working within our supported housing scheme in the borough of Bedford. This is a housing service for the homeless with a range of needs. We provide our customers with 24 hour on site support, including specialist staff for those with complex needs, who you will work alongside to support customers in managing their mental health and substance misuse.
You will work 1-4 waking night shifts per week including weekends, on a rota basis which is completed 4 weeks in advance (number of nights per week to be discussed at interview). As a support assistant you will provide emotional support to individuals to help them sustain their homes, promote independence and develop the necessary skills to live independently.
You will provide a broad range of lower end support tasks such as monitoring customer’s wellbeing, tackling social isolation which includes providing evening activities and groups, and managing customer risk by ensuring regular contact and observation of customer health.
During your waking night shift you will be responsible for the security of the whole building and will carry out regular health and safety checks of the building throughout the night.
You will also make full use of I.T. for appropriate tasks such as updating customer records following contact using our in house data recording system MPS.
You will ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to at all times including safeguarding, health and safety, equality and diversity and code of conduct.
You should have previous experience/ knowledge/ skills of:
-Experience of providing support to vulnerable individuals in a work or voluntary capacity in a similar environment.
-Have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with vulnerable adults
- Have a solution focused approach when it comes to problem solving.
-An understanding of safeguarding adults and demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable adults.
-Experience of promoting equality and diversity
-Ability to motivate and support vulnerable adults
- I.T. skills including the use of Microsoft packages suck as word and the use of outlook
Ability to communicate effectively in writing
-Ability to contribute to effective team working
-An understanding of the issues affecting vulnerable adults
-An understanding of health and safety
-Ability to represent One Housing to other agencies and companies where necessary
-NVQ in health and social care is desirable
Hours 8.30pm to 8.30am, 1-4 night shifts per week
Salary £8.21 per hour
