Job Description

This post is to provide maternity leave cover for up to 12 months; however, the Trust has made the commitment to offer the successful applicant a permanent contract with the Trust. In the event that the need for this post ends, a suitable alternative post will be offered. Applicants should be aware that alternatives may require some flexibility on role and/or location. Secondment arrangements will also be considered but applicants must have prior agreement from their current line manager.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Learning Disabilities Nurse to join the Durham and Darlington Specialist Health Team. The team is based at Green Lane, Spennymoor and covers the County Durham and Darlington locality.

The successful candidate will need to have a genuine desire to improve the mental health and well-being of adults with learning disability and behaviours that challenge. They will work as part of a team enhancing the community service provision, working alongside community teams with service users who require specialist interventions due to the impact of mental health difficulties, using trauma informed care and a recovery based approach.

The post holder will be expected to work with the multi-disciplinary teams; however they may work independently under supervision of senior team staff. The successful applicant will be responsible for the supervision of junior staff and will also be expected to support students on placement with the team. They will possess good interpersonal skills and be committed to providing a high standard of care for people with learning disabilities

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. A lease car scheme is in operation.
