Job Description

An opportunity for a part-time (20hrs) mental health nurse or occupational therapist has arisen to work with the Acute Hospitals Liaison Service on a temporary, secondment or permanent basis. This is a multi-disciplinary service for older people currently operating from both Airedale General Hospital and Lynfield Mount Hospital. The service provides assessment, guidance, training and support for patients and staff on general medical wards in acute Trust ward areas based at Bradford Royal Infirmary, St Luke's Hospital and Airedale General Hospital

The post holder will be responsible for liaison with relevant professionals, assessment, planning and interventions for older people with mental health needs cared for in a General Hospital. The post holder will offer advice on the best care of older people with mental health problems to ward teams within the Acute Trust, identify needs and sign-post service users for further assessment if required to other services.

The post holder will be able to work constructively as part of a team with a flexible approach, linking in with the Consultant Psychiatrist for Acute Liaison, Older People's Community Mental Health Teams and mental health in-patient wards in accordance with the objectives of Bradford District Care Trust and team operational policies. The post holder will promote clinical excellence and utilise skills in developing training within the acute hospital setting.

  • Minimum 2 years post registration experience as Registered Nurse (level 1) NMC in Mental Health or as a Qualified Occupational Therapist
  • Experience of working with older people with mental health problems
  • Experience of mental health care in General Hospital settings is desirable
