Job Description

Thanet Community Mental Health Team is looking to recruit a Band 3 Peer Support Worker to work in the Thanet locality on a 6 month secondment. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated individual with lived experience of secondary mental health services to join our multi-disciplinary team.

The main purpose of this role is to support service users to establish greater control over their lives, helping to identify aspects of life that give meaning, hope, value and purpose whilst recognising that each individuals recovery is a distinctive and deeply personal process.

This exciting new role actively encourages applications from people with lived experience of secondary mental health services . We are looking for individuals who have experience of working and living with mental illness and importantly are able to engage and work with people in a practical way that enables the recovery of others.

The successful post holder will receive supervision from within the team and externally via a peer Mentor. This role will involve working individually with service users and also working within the wider staff group to ensure that the environment supports the service user to reach their individual recovery goals.
Ideally we would like applicants to have:

• Lived experience of mental health
• At least one year's experience of working with people withmental health needs.
• Good written and verbal communication
• Good IT skills
• Willing to complete training on the Trust's electronic clinical record system (RiO)
• Ability to work on own and willing to develop skills and abilities
• Be outgoing and enthusiastic and flexible to change

The post holder will work with individuals and will be expected to co-facilitate some groups and activities.
