Job Description

Seven Resourcing are looking for a temporary Independent Living Officer to work in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. This position is initially for a period of 3 months and is paying £15.84 per hour (paid to you via an umbrella company).

The role:

Responsible for the day to day housing management of the Council's Supported Housing Schemes including, Supported Houses of Multiple Occupation; together with the support of those customers who reside there, creating communities, sourcing and negotiating opportunities for employment and volunteering for those customers disenfranchised by their current situation. Supporting looked after children in a safe and secure environment to reach their full potential and integrate into the community; and helping to prevent social isolation.

Key Responsibilities:

* To assist in the day to day delivery of housing management functions within CBC Council's Supported Housing Schemes including, Supported Houses of Multiple Occupation ensuring that the safety and well being of the residents, customers and visitors remains paramount and that their needs are met.

* To provide an out of hour's emergency response to all supported accommodation including building management functions; taking part in the rolling 5 week rota in line with standby procedure which includes being on duty for 24 hours over a seven day period.

* To negotiate with stakeholders, partner agencies and the wider community to source opportunities for customers to access and engage in employment, education or volunteering. Coaching and mentoring customers to achieve their full potential ensuring barriers are overcome and limits are not placed on what they can achieve.

* To sign up new tenants to accommodation, explaining both the council's and the incoming customer's responsibilities, liaising with other colleagues as necessary; to ensure that the referral into the service is appropriate and that pre-allocation risk assessments are comprehensive and current. Where necessary carry out face to face interviews with potential customers to assess their suitability for the accommodation, obtain a full picture of the current situation, their aspirations and any barriers they face to securing a permanent home.

* Liaising with the Housing Options Team and the Lettings Officers to ensure that clients are supported to 'Move On', from supported housing into secure permanent accommodation. Using the team's resources ensure that those customers transitioning out of supported accommodation experience a seamless transition of services and are supported and empowered to thrive in their new home environment.

* To be responsible for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, by liaising with all other relevant statutory agencies and recommending courses of action to resolve barriers to positive outcomes for the customer; and participating in relevant operational partnership groups. To assess and apply a range of interventions to prevent the loss of a placement in supported housing. Ensuring that all avenues of resolution have been exhausted before an eviction takes place. Keeping comprehensive evidence that interventions have been applied, risks assessed and mitigations applied where appropriate. Making certain that safeguarding procedures have been adhered to.

* To be able to interpret, evaluate and apply statutory legislation and Case Law to all decisions made under the Housing Act and have a good knowledge of housing and complimentary legislation relating to support for vulnerable adults and children.

Applicant Requirements:

* Qualifications: Educated to A Level/level 3 or equivalent qualification or in depth experience of the key job responsibilities.

* Experience: Demonstrable experience of working within a Housing Management, Housing Needs or Social Care environment.

* Compliance: Current DBS check and references covering the past 5 years.

* Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.

* Hours: 37 hours p/w.
