Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities To work as a member of the Stoma Nursing team to provide stoma and nursing care.
To provide stoma teaching to allow for safe and earliest discharge from hospital. Ensuring that the patients and carers are confided and competent in stoma care.
To work collaboratively with all MDT members
Undertaking daily stoma care teaching to patients, carers and family
Maintaining stock levels of stoma supplies, order supplies from stoma supplies.
To work with all members of the MDT and ensure and concerns are highlighted
Keep accurate records of discussions or correspondence with patients and staff
Respect cultural and social differences
Work flexibly across the organisation, covering the work of colleagues during peak periods or absence
Support the team in planning, organising health and well being events
Attend patient support groups as requires
Undertake patient home visits for teaching or support

Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English
  • Stoma Care Foundation course


Knowledge Essential criteria
  • Understanding of caring for patients with surgical and stoma related conditions
  • Understanding and awareness of difference types of stomas


Skills Essential criteria
  • Experience of acting in a caring role within an NHS setting
  • Experience of working within colorectal care
  • Experience of caring for patients with a stoma


Values Based Question Essential criteria
  • How do you demonstrate respect and dignity?
