Job Description

Seven Resourcing are looking for a number of temporary Housing Options Officers to work in Bromley. These positions are initially for a period of 3 months and are paying £18.85 per hour (paid to you via an umbrella company).

The role:

To interview and assess homeless people.

To prevent homelessness, by promoting housing options and providing effective advice.

To determine whether applicants are owed a statutory duty under Part VII of 1996 Housing Act, as amended.

To always perform responsibilities with a Customer Service and Performance Management focus.

Work closely with the other Housing Division Teams to achieve the Division's aims and targets, preventing fraud and protecting resources.

Key Responsibilities:

To interview customers, to assess whether homelessness can be prevented in any way in a sensitive, customer focused way, which meets the needs of vulnerable customers whilst simultaneously managing expectations.

To assess whether those who are threatened with homelessness qualify for private sector options, based on the likelihood of their meeting the criteria for the full housing duty, under the Housing Act, Part VII, as amended.

To explain housing options clearly and lawfully to qualifying customers and to promote the idea, to interest as many customers as possible.

To investigate homelessness applications undertaking necessary enquiries quickly and efficiently within 33 working days to determine eligibility, priority need, homelessness, intentional homelessness and local connection.

To make detailed enquiries to outside agencies and authorities in order to verify and obtain further information about the above and to investigate the applicant's statement to prevent fraud and protect public resources.

Respond effectively to emergency situations, averting homelessness through advice and advocacy and negotiation on behalf of clients with landlords, family, friends, solicitors, agents and lenders, and by using mediation or conciliation, or by securing immediate access to alternative accommodation.

Refer customers to the Housing Support Team only where homelessness cannot be prevented and the household expressly wishes to pursue an application under Part VII of the homelessness Act 1996 (as amended) and are in priority need due to a physical or mental health vulnerability.

Take initial action on complaints of harassment and illegal eviction, providing conciliation and mediation services, achieving reinstatement where possible and referring cases for follow up action to the Legal Department or appropriate agencies.

To represent clients at relevant tribunals e.g. Rent Officer and to prepare evidence, affidavits and represent clients at relevant courts (e.g. County Court) and tribunals as directed by the team manager, to prevent homelessness.

Deal promptly with all enquiries by telephone, correspondence or in person from MPs, councillors, Solicitors, other agencies or members of the public ensuring that the Council's responses targets are met or exceeded.

Applicant Requirements:

* Qualifications: N/A.

* Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role.

* Compliance: Current DBS and references covering the past 5 years.

* Hours: 37 hours p/w.
