Seven Resourcing are looking for a temporary Inclusion Officer to work with the Education and Learning department in Exeter, Devon. This position is initially for a period of 3 months and is paying £17.06 per hour (paid to you via an umbrella company).

The role:

This post sits in Education and Learning within People. The work of the Education Inclusion Service is a statutory service to ensure that the most vulnerable children who are excluded are fully and effectively engaged in education, on a school roll and making progress in their learning. It is a key and essential role in promoting the inclusion of children across the County including those from Other Local Authorities. The age range is 4-18 years. It is firmly rooted in the Local Authority statutory duties relating to permanent, fixed period exclusions, children unable to attend school due to medical needs, admissions and safeguarding.

The main purpose of the job is to work with a wide range of colleagues and Parents/ Carers to prevent exclusions, maintain children in their school place and where necessary, as a result of Permanent Exclusion or medical absence, enable children to be reintegrated into full time permanent education. This post is a County-wide post as necessary but largely covers a specific geographical area and could include a specialist focus across the team. The functions of the post contribute to the delivery of Devon County Council's Strategic Plan Apply in improving health and wellbeing and in championing the needs of the most vulnerable and closing the gap in outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

* Ensure that Devon Schools and Academies use Fixed Term and Permanent Exclusion in accordance with the law and guidance issued by the Department for Education.

* Provide professional support and advice to Devon Schools and Academies to prevent exclusion of any kind. To appropriately challenge other colleagues within DCC and other agencies in order to ensure the best possible outcomes for children at risk of exclusion or those who have been permanently excluded.

* Give effective professional advice and guidance on processes and procedures to school staff, Governors, Parents and Carers.

* To contribute to and influence the strategic direction and policy development of this area of work.

* To lead on the work of Behaviour and Attendance Partnerships and other mechanisms relating to early intervention work particularly for children requiring education due to their medical needs.

* On notification of a Permanent Exclusion or request for a medical placement, provide the front line statutory service to all schools. This involves giving impartial, clear advice on the legal processes; scrutinising the evidence provided in exclusion cases; attending the Disciplinary Committee meetings of the school's Governing Body; preparing the Local Authority's case and presenting it to the Discipline Committee at the meeting.

* On notification of a Permanent Exclusion or request for a medical placement, advise and support the pupil's Parents/Carers. This involves giving impartial, clear advice on the legal processes, including advice on the preparation of an appeal to the Independent Appeal Panel if the Discipline Committee decides to uphold the exclusion.

Applicant Requirements:

* Qualifications: Degree/Level 4 qualification in Education, Social Work, Health (Nursing, CAMHS, etc), Careers Guidance or Youth Work.

* Experience: Understanding of the importance of improving outcomes for vulnerable people; Experience of participation in multi-agency working; Understanding of safeguarding issues; Experience of leading a piece of work to develop a better service.

* Compliance: Proof of ability to work and live in the UK. Current DBS and references.

* Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.

* Hours: 37.5 hours p/w.
