Job Description

Mental Health Support Coordinator (Waking Nights)

Torquay, Devon

Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hpw)

Salary of £19,300 to £20,250 pa

Plus, brilliant benefits!

Empowering customers to live rewarding and happy lives. That’s when it hits home!

We have an amazing opportunity for you to join our fantastic Mental Health Support team, as our Waking Nights Support Coordinator. You will be based at our mental health recovery service here in Torquay working as part of a small team covering nights, offering our customers a first point of call when needed. This job isn’t always easy, and our customers can be tough to support at times, however the job is hugely rewarding!

Working in partnership with the NHS our CQC registered service provides 24/7 support to our brilliant customers, who have a range of mental health conditions with complex and challenging needs. We help our customers by supporting them in their homes, helping them gain independence and the skills needed to move forward in the right direction. All our customers are unique, and very different in their own ways, meaning we need to adapt how we support them.

About our team

Our amazing team describe themselves as really friendly and approachable, as we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too! It has been said by new starters previously that they not only felt welcomed by colleagues but by our customers also and that was from day one!

You may think that working through the night would mean you’d miss out on valuable team time, but we like to do things a little differently here at Home Group. We make time for us all to get together regularly during the day for training and team meetings, all of which will be fitted in to your rota nicely.

There are more than 40 of us who work in our amazing team, many of whom have started in supported roles and progressed their careers within Home Group. We fully support internal progression, in fact, Becky is now our Registered Manager and has worked in the service for six years in total and is still eager to progress further. We also have Ian, our Mental Health Practice Lead. He has been with us for a few years now and is loving the transition he made from the NHS. Becky and Ian are just two examples, you too could be one of our success stories if you choose to come on board.

On top of all of this we also invest in our team’s clinical knowledge and experience.

Areas include Positive Behavioural Support Planning, Psychologically Informed Environments and FACE risk assessments, which means when you join, should you want to, there is plenty of scope for personal growth and development too. We want you to be part of it all!

Working hours

You will be supporting our customers between 7pm and 8am as we provide 24-hour support, though this specific role is for night owls, generally working 3 shifts per week on a rota basis, taking your turn working weekends and bank holidays. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of your customers, however we will be flexible too to find and agree a working pattern that suits us all!

If you would rather work for us on a more casual basis, we can help you with that too, as we do have bank shifts available. If this is of interest, please visit our website.

About you

Dealing with our customers isn’t always easy, and we experience some quite challenging mental health situations at times. That’s why it’s important that you are resilient. You also need to have a great problem-solving approach to dealing with complex situations as well as a great understanding of professional boundaries, responsibility for safeguarding, risk assessment, confidentiality and have experience in case management.

You are passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. To you, providing care and support is more than just a job, you make every customer feel valued and respected. You’re compassionate and use your unique empathy and creativity skills to help our customers reach their full potential. Treating our customers with integrity, you ensure that they always maintain their dignity.

You’ll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds, creating bespoke and personalised support plans with and for our customers. You will also be responsible for coordinating other night support workers as well as working collaboratively with external agencies when needed.

To keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!) You’ll be using the latest kit shared between the staff in the service office and as most of our systems are computer based, we will be more than happy to support you.

Experience and skills are always desirable, especially in mental health, however none of these are any good without the right attitude, ener
