Job Description

Lead Support Worker

Snodland, Kent

Permanent, full & part time hours available (37.5 hpw if FT)

Salary: c£25,500 pa pro rata, depending on skills and experience plus On Call and Sleep-In Enhancements

Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home.

We have a hugely rewarding opportunity for you to join our Transforming Care team, helping our brilliant customers to live a fulfilling life in their own home and within the local community.

Our customer is a lady in her 40’s with complex needs and challenging behaviours including learning disabilities, autism, OCD and curvature of the spine. She is looking for an experienced team to support her in her daily living activities, creating such good bonds that you will be considered family.

Our customer, let’s call her J, will be supported on a 2:1 basis. J enjoys going for daily outings to cafes listening to CD’s or the radio and watching DVD’s. She also has a love for makeup, lipstick and nail varnish, as well as learning new activities and expanding her vocabulary. J, who can get frustrated when not following a conversation, needs you to be able to adapt your language and explain things in familiar terms so that she is able to understand more clearly. You’ll be trained to support our customer’s mental and physical wellbeing and to take positive risks to enable her successful journey. If required (and only as a last resort), you may need to use physical intervention and we will provide you with the training and support to do this safely.

You’ll manage our small team of frontline Positive Behavioural Support Workers in providing person-centred and strengths-based support. As our team and safeguarding lead, you’ll use your experience and brilliant skills in effectively motivating and directing colleagues. You’ll ensure our exciting new LIFE support practice model (Living Independently and Feeling Enabled) is delivered in a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led way. We’ll tell you all about it when we meet you!

About our team

You’ll be working alongside our Clinical Registered Manager Amanda, and Philippa our Deputy Manager, as well as our brand-new team of PBS Support Workers and clinical colleagues who are super passionate about supporting our customer to reach her goals and celebrate their achievements. You will be leading a newly recruited team of around seven colleagues.

Where you’ll work

You’ll work primarily with J in her own home in Snodland as well as supporting her in the community, but there will be opportunities for you to work with our other customers in Kent too, with services in Gravesend, Canterbury, Ashford, Broadstairs and Rainham you may be asked to support our other customers as and when there is a requirement.

Working hours

Our customer needs 2:1 support 24/7 to meet her needs, so you’ll take your turn with your team working on a rota which could include working days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. You may also be required to do sleep ins in which an enhancement will be paid. As we’re asking you to be flexible for our customer, we’ll also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

About you

You’ll have an excellent working knowledge and experience in the Care and Support sector, including safeguarding processes and responding quickly and appropriately to emerging risks to individuals, teams or service delivery.

It’s important to us that you have worked in a Senior Support Worker role before, preferably with people that display behaviours of concern, working with support and risk management plans. Holding a Level 3 or 2 Diploma in Adult Health & Social Care or equivalent, you’ll have a great understanding and passion for promoting independence and social inclusion through person centred support. You’ll provide personal care in a strengths-based way to facilitate greater independence, as well as use creative solutions to support independence. You must also be willing to provide personal care where required.

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
