Job Description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities Clinical Duties
Undertake a range of delegated clinical care duties to deliver agreed plans of care under
the supervision of trained staff

Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first

To ensure patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having
regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines

Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the
individuals

To act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated
approach to the delivery of care

Provides support and assistance to professionals in the implementation of plans of care for
individual patients

Transporting patients/equipment in line with local HSE policy

As directed, to record routine observations of blood pressure, temperature, pulse,
respiratory rate and blood glucose when needed. Report any abnormalities and concerns
to a registered nurse

Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to the nurse in charge

Provide reassurance and support to patients, carers and family

Confirm with the theatre flow coordinator (flow co) how many trolleys will be required for
each session AM/PM.

Prepare the required number of patient trolleys for use in theatre with a blue transfer sheet,
pillow and blanket, and place into theatre/aneasthetic room.

Ensure each trolley is equipt with an oxgen cylinder, with sufficient amount of O2 displayed
on the gauge.

Collect instruments from decontamination area. Scan items and place correctly in the
appropriate store room

At the end of the morning session (13-13:30) all used instruments to be transported to the
decontamination area regardless of whether the trolley is full. This will ensure that all
instruments are available for the team the next day. This is also applicable for the afternoon
session (Applycrvdbrcktsc .

Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria
  • Evidence of a general education e.g. GCSE's or equivalent
  • NVQ II in Healthcare / QCF Diploma in Health Level 2 or equivalent qualification in the area of speciality (e.g. Operating Theatre Practice for posts in theatre) or an equivalent level of working experience within a similar role


Knowledge Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of taking clinical observations
  • Knowledge of hospital systems
  • Knowledge of Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids


Experience Essential criteria
  • Some experience of working as a healthcare assistant in a hospital or registered care setting
  • Customer care experience
  • Commitment to working in partnership with patients / carers
