Job Description

Deputy Nursery Manager

Up to £36,000 per year | 40 Hours per Week | All Year Round

Some of the most memorable early years experiences happen beyond four walls – discovering something new in the garden, exploring natural materials or developing the confidence to take on a new challenge.

This nurturing nursery embraces that philosophy, creating a calm and supportive environment where children are given the time and space to follow their curiosity. Outdoor learning is woven into everyday nursery life, with spacious learning areas and Forest School experiences encouraging children to investigate nature, become more independent and develop a genuine love of learning.

We're looking for an experienced early years leader to join as Deputy Nursery Manager. Working alongside the Nursery Manager, you'll help create an environment where practitioners feel supported to do their best work and children receive consistently high-quality care and education.

This is an excellent progression opportunity for an established Third in Charge looking to take the next step into deputy management.

What We're Looking For

  • Full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification or above.
  • A minimum of Third in Charge experience within a nursery is essential.
  • Previous Deputy Nursery Manager experience would also be welcomed.
  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and child development.
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing early years practitioners.
  • Confidence monitoring the quality of practice and supporting continuous improvement.
  • An appreciation for outdoor learning, Forest School and child-led experiences.
  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • A calm, supportive and hands-on leadership style.

What You'll Receive

  • Up to £36,000 per year
  • All-year-round permanent position
  • Pension scheme
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Opportunity to progress and develop your nursery management career
  • Supportive nursery environment with a strong emphasis on outdoor and Forest School learning

Your Role

  • Support the Nursery Manager with the successful day-to-day running of the setting.
  • Provide visible leadership, guidance and support to practitioners across the nursery.
  • Coach and develop colleagues, helping maintain consistently high standards of early years practice.
  • Monitor children's experiences and ensure the EYFS is delivered effectively throughout the setting.
  • Encourage a curriculum that sparks children's curiosity, independence and enthusiasm for learning.
  • Promote the use of outdoor spaces and Forest School experiences as an important part of children's development.
  • Build positive relationships with children and maintain strong partnerships with families.
  • Support staffing, routines and the smooth organisation of the nursery day.
  • Maintain excellent safeguarding, health and safety and regulatory standards.
  • Support quality improvement and help implement positive changes across the nursery.
  • Deputise for the Nursery Manager and confidently lead the setting when required.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements, including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and verification of the right to work in the UK, in line with safeguarding responsibilities.
