Job Description

Deputy Nursery Manager

Up to £36,000 per year | 40 Hours per Week | All Year Round

If you’re ready to take the next step in your Early Years leadership career while still being actively involved in nursery life, this could be a fantastic opportunity.

This welcoming nursery takes a genuinely child-centred approach, creating a warm, home-from-home environment where children feel safe, valued and confident to develop at their own pace. With small group sizes, the team can build meaningful relationships with each child and provide experiences shaped around their individual interests and development.

As Deputy Nursery Manager, you’ll work closely with the Nursery Manager to support the successful day-to-day running of the setting. You’ll provide visible leadership to the team, help maintain excellent standards across the nursery and ensure children continue to receive high-quality, nurturing care and education.

What We’re Looking For

  • Full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification or above.
  • Previous senior or leadership experience within a nursery setting.
  • Experience as a Third in Charge, Deputy Nursery Manager or similar senior position.
  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework, safeguarding and child development.
  • Confidence leading, supporting and mentoring Early Years practitioners.
  • Ability to monitor standards and support continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • A genuine passion for child-led learning and outdoor experiences.
  • A positive, approachable and hands-on leadership style.

What You’ll Receive

  • Up to £36,000 per year
  • 40 hours per week
  • All-year-round position
  • Pension scheme
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Supportive leadership team
  • Excellent opportunities for continued career progression
  • Opportunity to work within a nursery that values small group sizes, outdoor learning and child-led education

Your Role

  • Support the Nursery Manager with the effective day-to-day running of the setting.
  • Provide guidance, leadership and support to practitioners across the nursery.
  • Lead by example and help maintain consistently high standards of care and education.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues, supporting their development and performance.
  • Monitor the delivery of the EYFS and ensure children’s individual needs and interests remain at the centre of practice.
  • Promote engaging indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage children’s confidence, curiosity and independence.
  • Build strong relationships with children, families and colleagues.
  • Support staffing, routines and the smooth organisation of the nursery day.
  • Maintain excellent standards of safeguarding, health and safety and nursery practice.
  • Support quality improvement and help implement positive changes across the setting.
  • Deputise for the Nursery Manager when required, confidently taking responsibility for the nursery in their absence.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements, including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, and verification of the right to work in the UK, in line with safeguarding responsibilities.
