Residential Care

Full job description

Are you currently working in a children’s residential setting and looking for a new opportunity?

Do you want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people? If you bring passion, drive, and genuine care, this role could be the perfect next step in your career.

About us

Nurture Bridge is a forward‑thinking and compassionate residential childcare provider based in Berkshire. We support children and young people aged 7–17 with emotional and behavioural needs, offering safe, structured, and therapeutic homes where they can thrive. Our practice is rooted in empathy, consistency, and a belief in every child’s potential.

We are now building a dedicated team at Woodview House, our newly established home in Wexham, and we’re looking for values‑driven individuals to join us.

About you

Ideally, you will have at least 6 months’ experience working in a children’s residential home. However, we are also open to strong candidates who may not have direct residential experience but can demonstrate genuine passion, commitment, and the right values for working with children.

Many of the children we support have experienced trauma, loss, or instability. Your role will be to provide a consistent, safe, and emotionally attuned environment where they can begin to trust, heal, and grow. With full training provided, you’ll deepen your understanding of trauma‑informed practice and learn how to support young people to develop healthy coping strategies.

Please note:

You must be aged 21 or over (per children’s home regulations)

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential

Key Responsibilities

Support children and young people with daily routines, education, and emotional wellbeing

Follow individual care plans and maintain consistent, therapeutic boundaries

Create and maintain a safe, nurturing environment in line with safeguarding policies

Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviour

Work collaboratively with colleagues, external professionals, and families

Act as a positive role model, promoting independence, resilience, and healthy relationships

Participate in shift work, including evenings, weekends, and sleep‑ins

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 6 months’ experience in a children’s residential care setting (preferred but not essential for the right candidate)
  • A flexible, team-oriented approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection
  • NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (preferred) or willingness to work towards it

Why Join Nurture Bridge?

We know this work can be emotionally demanding — but it’s also deeply rewarding. That’s why we invest in our team’s wellbeing and development:

  • Competitive pay: £14.50/hour + £60 per sleep-in
  • Wellbeing support: Regular 1:1s, team check-ins, and reflective practice
  • Ongoing training: Specialist courses and opportunities to become a ‘champion’ in areas like safeguarding, SEN, or therapeutic care
  • Team culture: Coffee mornings, BBQs, team lunches, and more
  • Work-life balance: Shifts are thoughtfully structured and split across the day to ensure adequate rest and prevent burnout
