Jump into this exciting opportunity with Barnsley Council as an Advanced Practitioner within the Practice Development Team. This pivotal role focuses on driving quality, consistency, and excellence across Children's Social Care, ensuring practitioners are supported to deliver the highest standards of practice.

What you will do

  • Lead practice development and quality improvement initiatives across Children's Services.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and reflective supervision to social workers and practitioners.
  • Undertake audit and quality assurance activity, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Support the implementation and embedding of agreed practice frameworks and models.
  • Contribute to workforce development through training delivery and learning sessions.
  • Work closely with Team Managers and senior leaders to promote consistent, high‑quality practice.
  • Support service improvement activity following inspections or internal reviews.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, reflection, and professional curiosity.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and safeguarding standards.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Significant post‑qualification experience within Children's Social Care.
  • Experience in a senior or practice leadership role such as Advanced Practitioner or Senior Social Worker.
  • Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, safeguarding, and child protection frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and report‑writing skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a Practice Development, Quality Assurance, or Audit function.
