It’s easy to request more information about a social care or social work job posting that you’ve seen on Socialcare.co.uk. You just need to click the Apply Now button and ask the right questions.

Applying for social care jobs online can be a daunting process if you’ve never done it before, or if there aren’t enough details given in the advert. It’s easy to dismiss a job ad just because there isn’t enough information in it, but it could be just the opportunity you’re looking for so here’s how to make the most of it.

Job advertising on the internet is now common place for most organisations in the social care and social work industry, and it’s usual to see very short job adverts online instead of the traditional detailed adverts that would previously have been placed in a newspaper.

Online job postings can work to your advantage

When you’re searching for jobs online, if you come across a job you really want to apply for but there isn’t enough information there for you to make a tailored CV or cover letter, here is how you can get the information you need.

1. Write and upload a shortened CV

Write a shortened version of your CV and upload it to your account. It should contain just enough information that tells recruiter your experience, qualifications and the type of jobs you’re looking for without giving away more information than you are comfortable with.

It's entirely reasonable of you to not give away all your details if you aren't 100% sure you want to apply for the role. A shortened CV should be just enough to ensure a recruiter contacts you with further information.

By making a shortened version of your CV, you’re giving a taster of who you are and what sort of jobs you would be suited to without giving everything away at once, but make sure you always include your contact details especially a phone number and email address.

2. Write a cover letter and list of questions you would like answers to

It’s a good idea to be clear with the recruiter and ask at the beginning of your cover letter that you would like someone to contact you with the answers to your questions. You can then decide whether or not to make a formal application. There’s no harm in requesting further information before you decide to apply, it’s your choice and you’re in charge.

Feel free to ask questions such as:

“Where is the job actually located?”

“What will the working hours be?”

“How much is the salary and what package are you offering with that?”

3. Send your enquiry through the site using the ‘Apply Now’ button

So now you’ve got your shortened CV uploaded and your questions written, go to the job ad on Socialcare.co.uk that you want to apply for. Make sure you are logged in to your account.

At the bottom of the job advert you will see a box for your cover letter, so copy and paste your questions into this box and re-iterate that you would like to be contacted with further information before submitting a formal application.

And all that’s left is to click the ‘Submit’ button to send off your application. You will receive a copy of the application by email, and often you will be able to see the exact email address of the person receiving your email.
