Working with children and young people, ages ranging from 11 to 25 years old, your life can have a great and meaningful impact through educational and engaging activities that inspire as well as teach.
You’ll be involved in leading children in organized activities and projects that you help to plan in creating a well-rounded individual through participation and involvement. Some goals that you’ll work to achieve will be to encourage positive attitudes regarding health and safety issues, avoiding drugs and alcohol and how to successfully achieve in society. You should also be well prepared to assist and interact with children from various backgrounds and cultures. Some will be referred to you because they have faced challenges early on in life and require structured guidance and support.
Youth work activities are arranged in school or in other places outside the school, outdoors and include various sports activities. You may work for certain organizations that offer services to the youth. Such activities may involve one-on-one mentoring, lessons, or various assemblies, including clubs that are organized after school.
The Salary of a Youth Worker
Typically, youth worker jobs pay can range from £15K to £27K per annum and even up to £34K depending on past training, responsibility and experience. Professional youth workers can expect a beginning salary of £22K, while youth service managers can make up to £35K per annum, depending on the responsibilities and role.
