Job Purpose:

To provide a range of high quality services for the children and young people in our care.

The Supervising Social Worker plays a crucial role in enabling the needs of the child to be met and empowering carers to provide a stable, safe, consistent and caring environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

* To support, advise and guide carers in all aspects of their care of a child.

* To liaise closely with Social Workers from the placing authority. To ensure there is a two-way flow of information. To ensure that the agency's responsibilities in terms of the child's care plan are implemented.

* To contribute to the decision-taking process e.g. attend statutory reviews, conferences and other meetings, to attend court when required.

* To keep accurate and detailed records in accordance with agency policy.

* To provide reports when required e.g. for reviews, conferences and court.

* To participate in the agency's on-call service.

* To undertake direct work with children and young people where necessary in accordance with the care plan. To where necessary undertake tasks directly on behalf of children and young people e.g. supervise contact, transport.

* To assess new prospective carers.

* To contribute to carer training.

* To participate in the planning and development of services and contribute to the improvement of standards and quality assurance.

* To participate in supervision with the Line Manager.

* To comply fully with guidelines, e.g. equalities, health and safety.

* To comply fully with CSSIW/Ofsted regulations and other relevant legislation.

* To secure and maintain positive relationships with all users.

* To take referrals from local authorities and to arrange appropriate matching and placing of children in consultation with the Line Manager.

* To undertake any other broadly similar duties as and when required.

* An Enhanced CRB Disclosure is required for this post.



This vacancy description is provided to enable the post holder to know the range of her/his duties. Individual workloads will be negotiated within supervision with her/his Line Manager. It may be amended from time to time in consultation with post holders without changing the level of responsibility appropriate to this post.

* CQSW, DipSW, BA in Social Work or equivalent.

* Experience of working with children and families.
