    Job Description

    Family Engagement Officer

    Bridgend

    A Family Engagement Officer is required to join the Integrated Working and Family Support team at Bridgend County Borough Council for a contract until March 31st. This is a full time role based at the Civic Centre. Pay rate for this position is £10.71

    Main Purpose of role:

    To identify and support Families First children, young people and their families and engage them in the learning process. Providing a responsive, flexible and bespoke support which will mitigate the effects of child poverty on educational attainment and maximise the chances of families reaching their full potential.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Carry out early intervention / preventative work with 'harder-to-reach' families identified via completing a holistic family assessment (JAFF)
    • Provide timely advice and support to parents/carers (including home visits) to ensure families fully engage with schools and support their children to learn and achieve. This will involve close liaison between home, school, internal departments and external agencies.
    • Ensure that parents / carers acquire skills and strategies to support their children to achieve their full potential.
    • Liaise closely with professionals and multi-agencies to facilitate integrated working and improve long-term outcomes for children, young people and their families.
    • Develop and implement a family engagement & learning programme including parent forums / support groups and ensure that Families First eligible families access these opportunities. This might include cooking, physical exercise, activities to improve literacy / numeracy etc. hence promoting a positive experience between home and school
    • Prevent relapse and disengagement through monitoring, regular reviews and appropriate action implemented, as and when necessary
    • Ensure that all activities undertaken are monitored /evaluated to meet grant funding requirements / performance measures
    • Develop innovative bespoke interventions in order to engage with hard to reach families.
    • Contribute to service and team development through team meetings, practice forum and other organisational events
