    Job Description

    Social Worker required for Children in Care team, Dublin 2.

     

    Social Workers required for a number long term locum posts working in a children in care and duty and intake teams based in south Dublin city and south west Dublin.

    Immediate interview available

     

    Children in Care Team

     The Candidate:

    • Will hold a recognised qualification as a Social Worker and membership of CORU or application for registration in process with CORU / eligible for membership

    • Candidates qualified outside the Republic of Ireland will need to have validation of their qualifications with CORU

    • Current Garda vetting

    • Relevant experience e.g. social work placements will be considered in Child protection and/or Children in Care Services, residential child care, community child care worker/leader.

    • Full driving licence and access to a car

     

    Experience

    Relevant experience e.g. social work placements in Child protection and/or Children in Care Services, residential child care, community child care worker/leader.

    Knowledge

    • Child Development, Attachment, Human growth and development, Legislation, Current Policy and National Standards in respect of Child Protection & Welfare and Children in Care.

    • Other relevant knowledge in respect of Legislation, National Policies and recognised theories in the area of Social Science and Child Care.

    Skills

    • Excellent interpersonal skills

    • Good communication skills with children and parents using a range of techniques

    • Excellent organisational skills

    • Excellent report writing and case recording skills

    • Team working skills

    • Ability to be flexible and respond to crises and changing work environment

    • Ability to reflect on own skills and review and evaluate own work

    • Ability to work effectively with other professionals and agencies

     

    Job Description

    • To work directly with children/young people in the care of Tusla, Child and Family Agency, their carers and families.

    • To assess and evaluate the individual and collective needs of children/young people in care and create interventions and strategies to meet these needs.

    • To assist in the preparation of care plans and Child in Care Reviews.

    • To assist in co-ordinating the input of other professionals and agencies.

    • To work within current legislation, relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols within Tusla /CFA

    • To maintain written and current records, in respect of each child and any interventions.

    • Ensuring that the views of children and young people are recorded and taken into account.

    • To work in partnership with the child/young person their carers and families.

    • Organising and facilitating access for children/young people and their families, where this is in the best interest of the child.

    • Ensuring the welfare of the child is promoted and they are protected from abuse.

    • To work closely with other social work staff and line managers and participate in supervision.

    • To inform line managers of any significant event in relation to children, foster carer’s and families.

    • To prepare reports as appropriate in relation to assessments, Child in Care Reviews and court proceedings.

    • To assist in completion of placement plans, access plans and absent management plans. 

       

    Accountability

    The successful candidate will report to the Social Work Team Leader who will provide formal supervision, which will be recorded, on a fortnightly basis.
